DARBY PTA ROOM PARENT INFO FOR 2023/2024

PLEASE CLICK HERE TO VIEW LAUSD REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERS AND COMPLETE AN APPLICATION. If you plan to volunteer regularly on campus and around students/faculty, please fill out the application and wait for approval from our school.

Most Darby PTA positions can be done remotely and do not need LAUSD clearance.

Volunteers for a single event can volunteer with approval from our principal and school.

HOW TO BECOME A ROOM PARENT

  • Speak with your student’s teacher. Let your student’s teacher know that you would like to become the room parent. If more than one parent wants the role, you may be co-room parents. This should be done at the beginning of the school year.

  • Provide your teacher with your name, student’s name, and email address.

  • Provide Darby PTA with your name and email address by filling out this form. Someone from Darby PTA will contact you once we have received your info.

ROOM PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a class roster for your classroom: Collect contact information from your class parents and compile a list. Please create and send a form for parents to fill out their information as well as consent to receiving emails. Sample form here. The goal is to collect this information within the first month of school.

  • This contact list is private and is not to be shared without the consent of the parents. If parents have consented to having their info shared with the class, you may email the roster to all the parents.

  • Be the liaison between PTA and parents: PTA will email weekly announcements to you which you will then forward to your class parents (if they have given consent to receiving emails).

  • Be the liaison between the teacher and parents: Teachers will let you know what type of involvement they desire.

  • Collect items from your class parents and create a basket for Silent Auction (in April).

  • If possible, organize class parties and collect for teacher gifts (holidays, teacher appreciation week, end-of-year).
